Princeton Public Schools

Map of District Schools

The Princeton community is particularly devoted to the education of its children and justifiably proud of the high quality of its public school system. The Princeton Regional School District educates approximately 3,400 students in its four elementary schools (Grades PreK-5), its middle school (Grades 6-8), and its high school (Grades 9-12). Each of the elementary schools has 325-425 students. In addition to the core academic subjects, the curriculum includes art, vocal music, instrumental music, health and physical education, library skills; and technology is integrated into most subject areas.

The elementary schools offer world-language instruction (Spanish) in Grades K through 5. Children from the Institute attend Littlebrook Elementary School, with bus transportation to and from the school.

Our middle school offers a comprehensive educational program which, in addition to the core curriculum subjects of mathematics, language arts, science and social studies, includes an exploratory program (art, drama, modern living), instrumental and choral music, French, Spanish, and technology. Institute students at our middle school are also transported by bus.

Our high school, considered by many to be one of the finest in the country, offers a high-quality academic program primarily designed to prepare students for college-level education. Many elective subjects are offered, including six world languages, 30 Advanced Placement courses, and opportunities for our most academically talented students to take courses at Princeton University.

The school district offers a full range of supportive services, including programs for special needs students, health services, speech correction, remedial instruction, psychological services, guidance counseling, etc. English is a second language for over 15 percent of the school population due, in part, to visiting scholars at the Institute and the University. All children are tested upon entry, and those in need of special English-language instruction are assigned to English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) classes for one to two periods a day. For native Spanish-speaking children in need of assistance, we offer a bilingual-educational program. Our school staff is familiar with the needs of children entering from other countries, and we effectively address those needs.

To register your child, please visit the appropriate school (according to the age and last grade of your child) as soon as possible before school opens (Thursday, September 4, 2008). If you are registering a child at Littlebrook Elementary, it is not necessary to write in advance or to make an appointment; nor is it necessary to bring your child with you unless you would like to use the opportunity to walk through the building with him or her. To register at the middle school or the high school, please call to make an appointment. New students at the high school need to come to the school to participate in scheduling classes. Note that a child must be five years old by September 30 to be eligible to enter kindergarten, and four years old by September 30 to be eligible to enter the pre-kindergarten program.

Please bring the following information with you to registration:

  • A copy of your child's prior school records
  • Proof of your child's birth date (e.g., birth certificate or passport)
  • A copy of your child's medical immunization records (month and year)
