Princeton Schools
The Princeton Regional School District is made up of four elementary schools (kindergarten through 5th grade; ages 5 through 10; Institute children will attend the Littlebrook School), the John Witherspoon Middle School (6th through 8th grade; ages 11 through 13), and Princeton High School (9th through 12th grade; ages 14 through 17). The Princeton Regional School District's policy states that a child must be five years old by September 30 to be eligible to enter kindergarten.
English is a second language for over 15 percent of the school population due, in part, to visiting scholars at the Institute and Princeton University. All children are tested upon entry, and those in need of special English language instruction are assigned to English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for one to two periods a day. The school staff is familiar with the needs of children entering from other countries and those needs are effectively addressed.
From the information requested on the School Age Children Questionnaire included with your letter of invitation, the Institute will provide the School District with the names of children who are expected to enroll. Therefore, parents do not need to formally register their children until after their arrival at the Institute. The first day of school is September 4, 2008. Children can be officially registered at any time after the school year begins, and the schools are accustomed to families arriving throughout the year.
