JOB TITLE:                 Public Safety Officer - Full-time                                

SUPERVISOR:            Administrative Services Manager 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Patrol specified campus and housing areas, checking in at key sites across campus, insuring that the campus and housing environments are secure. 
• Check temperature and humidity gauges and other monitoring devices in specified areas and notify designated personnel in case of emergency. 
• Assist any IAS member locked out of office or apartment.  Respond to visitor inquiries. 
• Question unknown individuals who are not affiliated with IAS. 
• Respond to emergency calls occurring on IAS property, calling in local emergency personnel when appropriate. 
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

• Ability to walk one mile in 45 minutes or less (including stairs) in all weather conditions required. 
• Valid driver’s license required. 
• Criminal history will invalidate application. 
• Clear communication skills required.  Ability to read and understand instructions and to speak clearly required. 
• Ability to deal courteously with diverse community required. 
• Prior experience in a similar position and knowledge of first aid procedures and CPR preferred. 
• Basic working computer knowledge required.

SUPERVISOR:            Maintenance Supervisor 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• Move tables, chairs, equipment and other items as needed throughout the year for activities on campus.
• Repair doors, locks, hinges, windows, screens, and other items.  Will also make keys and install locks and perform minor patching, glazing and caulking.
• Maintain walk areas by sweeping, using snow and leaf blowers, and shoveling snow and ice with shovels and tractors.
• Repair and replace lighting fixtures, outlets, fuses, plugs, cords, breakers and appliances.  May operate minor electrical testing equipment. 
• May perform custodial work as required.
• May perform trash pick up as required to fill in for regularly assigned person.
• Perform other tasks as directed by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS:

• At least one year of prior experience in maintenance work developing diverse maintenance skills required.
• Ability to perform basic repair work required.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds required.
• Ability to take direction as well as work independently and cooperatively required. 
• Hold a valid driver’s license acceptable in the State of New Jersey.
• Ability to twist, bend, climb ladders, and work from ladders and scaffolding.
