Trains

New Jersey Transit provides hourly train service between Princeton Junction and New York City (Penn Station, West 33rd and 7th Avenue) on the Northeast Corridor line (Princeton Junction to New York, 65 minutes).  A commuter shuttle line connects the town of Princeton with the main Princeton Junction station (4 minutes).  The Princeton Rail Station is approximately a 1.4 mile/2.25 km walk from the Institute and is located near the WaWa Market on University Place off Alexander Street.  Automatic ticket machines are available at both stations (credit cards, debit cards, cash).  Tickets may be purchased on the train at a higher fare.  To return to Princeton from Penn Station, take the Northeast Corridor train to Trenton.

To reach the Princeton Junction station by car, take Alexander Road, cross over Route 1, and turn left on Wallace Road (follow NJ Transit signs).  Daily parking can be found by crossing over the shuttle tracks (can be crowded during the week).   Parking tokens must be used and can be purchased for $3 for each 24-hour period at various locations in the daily parking areas.  At the token machine, input your parking space number and insert one $3 token for each 24-hour period you intend to park. Press the green button and wait for your receipt.

For service to Philadelphia, take New Jersey Transit from Princeton Junction to Trenton (10 minutes) where a connection can be made on SEPTA's R7 (Trenton Line) to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station (30th and Market Streets).

Amtrak also provides faster but more expensive service to NY and Philadelphia, and several stops in between. Schedules are on the web and information can be obtained by calling 1-800-872-7245.

For helpful information on traveling in New York City, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) web link is very useful.
